How are baby wipes made?
Good baby wipes start with the right solution.
Baby wipes are made for the most sensitive skin and demand the most care of any wipe range. In this guide we cover choosing the solution by age, the production steps, fragrance and line hygiene.
What makes baby wipes different?
The production line is the same as for other wipes; the difference lies in the solution, fragrance, hygiene and packaging.
- Sensitive skinThe solution is chosen according to the baby's age and skin sensitivity.
- Light fragranceSoft, powdery and creamy scents are used at a low dosage.
- Strict hygieneThe line, tanks and pipes are cleaned regularly; clean, purified water is used.
- Lidded packThe lid and resealable label keep the wipes moist.
Choosing the solution by age
Water-based solutions are used for newborns (0–6 months) and cream-based solutions for babies over 6 months. Water and premix quantities for 1 tonne of ready solution:

ANKA INB 0050 is an isotonic formula close to the skin's natural balance, with minimal ingredients. ANKA DYD 0015 is a premium formula with a short list of carefully selected ingredients.
ANKA PLS 0025 contains vitamin E, aloe vera and chamomile extract, leaving skin feeling soft and cared for. ANKA E-PLS 0025 is the economy version made with the same ingredients.
Baby wipes production steps
Example: 1 tonne of isotonic newborn solution with ANKA INB 0050.
- Solution preparation950 kg of clean, purified water goes into the tank, and 50 kg of premix is added.
- Fragrance and mixingA soft baby fragrance is added at a low dosage and mixed for 15 minutes.
- Folding and cuttingThe nonwoven fabric is folded and cut to sheet size.
- WettingThe solution is dosed onto the fabric, giving every pack the same moisture level.
- Lidded packagingThe wipes are packed and a lid or resealable label is applied.
- Inspection and boxingWeight, sheet count and pack seal are checked; the products are packed into cartons.
Fragrance and cost
In baby wipes the scent is kept light; the cost is driven by the amount of solution per pack.
Soft, powdery and creamy scents such as Baby Powder, Chamomille, Aloe Vera and Cream Sensitive are preferred, at a low dosage.

Common mistakes
Most complaints about baby wipes come down to these points.
- Choosing a solution that doesn't suit the age group. For newborn wipes, use water-based solutions developed for 0–6 months; cream-based solutions are for babies over 6 months.
- Making the scent too strong. Baby wipes use soft scents at a low dosage; a strong fragrance does not meet the expectations for sensitive skin.
- Neglecting line hygiene. Clean the tank, pipes and wetting unit regularly, and purify the water that makes up most of the solution.
- Not testing with your own fabric. Solution, fragrance and fabric work together; test with samples before mass production.
- Not checking the pack seal. A lid or label that doesn't close properly lets the wipes dry out.
