Private label wet wipes manufacturing
Private label or your own factory — which is right for you?
There are two ways to sell wet wipes under your own brand: have them made by a contract manufacturer, or set up your own factory. In this guide we compare the two models and explain how to tell which one suits you.
What is private label wet wipes manufacturing?
It means having your product made under your brand at another manufacturer's facility. Brand, sales and marketing are yours; production is handled by the contract manufacturer.
- The brand is yoursPackaging design, brand name and sales channel belong to you.
- Production at the manufacturerThe machines, staff and facility belong to the contract manufacturer.
- Order-based workProduction is planned around order quantity and lead time.
- Shared specificationFabric, solution, scent, sheet count and packaging are agreed together.
Private label or your own factory?
The two models meet different needs. The decision depends on your budget, sales volume and how much control you want.
No investment in machines or a facility; you get to market faster and can test your sales.
The production schedule and capacity depend on the manufacturer; you follow the manufacturer's order terms and have limited control over unit cost.
Production, quality and cost are under your control; you can expand your product range as you wish.
Depending on product, capacity, automation and space, the investment ranges from about $50,000 to $1 million.
Which model suits you?
Many brands start with private label and move to their own production once sales volume is established.

Common mistakes
The most common problems in private label production.
- Not putting the specification in writing. Fabric weight, sheet size, solution, scent and packaging should be specified in writing.
- Going into mass production without sample approval. Approve and keep a sample before mass production.
- Looking only at the unit price. Lead time, order terms and consistent quality matter as much as price.
- Leaving the solution and scent to the manufacturer. The solution and fragrance determine how your product feels and smells; make that choice yourself.
- Never calculating a move to your own production. As your sales grow, regularly compare the cost of producing in-house.
