Wet wipes machine selection guide

First the right product, then the right machine.

We do not manufacture or sell machines, so we can speak impartially. This guide covers the questions to ask and the line types to consider when choosing a wet wipes machine that fits your product, capacity and floor space.

What sections make up a wet wipes line?

Think of the machine as a complete line, not a standalone unit. The capacity of each section must match the others.

  1. Nonwoven reel unwindingThe fabric reel is fed into the line; reel width and basis weight must suit the machine.
  2. Folding and cuttingWipe size and fold type are determined in this section.
  3. Wetting and stackingThe solution is dosed and the wipes are stacked according to the pack count.
  4. PackingPacking, lid and label application; then cartoning and shipping.
  5. Solution preparationThe tank and dosing system where premix and fragrance are mixed with water — often the forgotten section.

7 questions to ask before choosing a machine

Quotes obtained before these questions are answered cannot be compared.

1. Which products will you produce?

Baby, cosmetic, cleaning, single, cologne or mop towels; each product group requires a different size, fold and packaging.

2. What is your target capacity?

Set your capacity by how much you can sell, not by machine speed.

3. Wipe size and pack count?

Sheet size, fold type and number of sheets per pack directly determine the machine choice.

4. What will the packaging be?

Flowpack, lid, label or box; the packing section is one of the most critical parts of the line.

5. Are your space and utilities suitable?

Floor dimensions, electricity, compressed air and water; the plant layout should be planned before the machine arrives.

6. How much automation do you want?

The level of automation changes headcount, investment and unit cost all at once.

7. Who provides service and spare parts?

Installation, training, service response time and access to spare parts matter as much as price. Compare new and used machines with this in mind.

Common mistakes

The situations we encounter most often in the projects we consult on.

  • Looking only at the machine price. Deciding without calculating the cost per pack, including fabric, solution, packaging and labour. Calculate your cost with WipeWise →
  • Buying the machine first and looking for space later. Plant layout and material flow should be planned before the machine is ordered. 2D/3D plant layout →
  • Forgetting solution preparation. The mixing tank, dosing and line hygiene directly affect product quality. Our premixes →
  • Choosing capacity independently of the market. Capacity you cannot sell extends the payback period of the investment.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell wet wipes machines?

No. We do not manufacture or sell machines. We introduce you to reliable machine manufacturers we work with that suit your project, and provide impartial advice on the selection.

How much does a wet wipes machine cost?

Prices vary widely by line type, capacity, automation level and packing equipment. Once your needs are clear, we help you obtain comparable quotes from machine manufacturers and calculate the return on investment with WipeWise.

How much space is needed for wet wipes production?

It depends on line type and capacity. Our video shows how a compact plant can be planned in 150 m²; we prepare a 2D/3D plant layout for your own space.

Who installs the machine?

Installation is carried out by machine manufacturers and utility contractors. We remotely monitor that the installation follows the project.

Should I buy a new or a used machine?

A used machine can lower the initial investment, but service, access to spare parts and suitability for your product must be carefully assessed. We can compare your options together.

What will I need besides the machine?

Nonwoven fabric, solution (premix and fragrance), packaging film, lids, labels and cartons. We produce the solution and fragrance ourselves; for the other items you can work with the suppliers we introduce you to.
