Wet wipe solution formula
Wet wipes formula: what's inside?
A wet wipe solution is made of water, a preservative, moisturising and care ingredients, product-specific ingredients and fragrance. In this guide we explain the ingredients, how the formula changes by product and how you can prepare the solution.
What's in a wet wipe solution?
A wet wipe solution is made of several ingredient groups. Ratios and ingredients vary by product.
- WaterIt makes up most of the solution; it must be clean and treated.
- PreservativeKeeps the solution and the wipe from spoiling throughout their shelf life.
- Moisturising and care ingredientsGive the skin a soft, cared-for feel; for example vitamin E, aloe vera and chamomile extract.
- pH balanceThe solution's pH is kept within the range suited to the product.
- Product-specific ingredientsAdded according to the intended use, such as make-up removal, surface cleaning or polishing.
- FragranceGives the wipe its scent; used at 0.3–0.5% of the finished solution.
The formula changes with the product
Wipes made on the same machine become entirely different products with different formulas.
Simple water-based formulas for newborns; cream-based formulas with vitamin E, aloe vera and chamomile extract for babies over 6 months.
Make-up removal, intimate or deo wipes; each is formulated for its own purpose.
Higher-concentration formulas for surfaces, glass, dashboards and leather.
An alcohol-based cologne formula, or an alcohol-free single-wipe formula with the fragrance already blended in.
Build the formula yourself or use a premix?
You can prepare the solution in two ways.
It takes many chemical raw materials, weighing, pH adjustment, formulation know-how and a laboratory. Every raw material means separate stock and a separate supplier.
All ingredients except water come ready in a single concentrate. With standard premixes, 20 kg of premix is added to 980 kg of water and mixed for 15 minutes; the pH adjusts itself.

Common mistakes
Most formula-related complaints come from these points.
- Producing with recipes from the internet. An industrial wet wipe formula is built by balancing shelf life, pH and skin compatibility.
- Making every product with one formula. Baby, cosmetic and cleaning wipes each need a different formula.
- Overlooking water quality. Most of the solution is water; use clean, treated water.
- Not testing the fragrance together with the formula. Test again with samples whenever the fragrance or premix changes.
- Exceeding the recommended rate. Extra premix raises the cost and changes the feel of the wipe; it adds nothing to the product.
Frequently asked questions
How is wet wipe solution made?
With a premix: 20 kg of premix is added to 980 kg of clean, treated water and mixed for 15 minutes. The ratio varies by product.
What does a wet wipes formula contain?
Water, a preservative, moisturising and care ingredients, product-specific ingredients and fragrance. The pH is kept within the range suited to the product.
Can I make wet wipe solution at home?
For industrial production, the formula must be balanced for shelf life, pH and skin compatibility. That's why we recommend using a ready premix.
Why is the baby wipes formula different?
Newborn skin is sensitive, so simple water-based formulas are used. For babies over 6 months, cream-based formulas are preferred.
Can you develop a custom formula for my brand?
Yes. We develop formulas and products to suit your target audience, quality standard and target cost.
Is the fragrance included in the formula?
No, fragrance is added separately. For single wipes, however, ANKA TIM 0020 comes with the fragrance already blended in, in 22 scents.
