How are surface, glass and car cleaning wipes made?
In cleaning wipes, every surface needs its own solution.
Household surface, glass, dashboard, leather and shoe wipes are produced in a similar way; the solution makes the difference. In this guide we explain how to choose the solution by surface, the ratios and how the cost calculation differs.
Choosing the solution by surface
In cleaning wipes, the surface to be wiped determines the solution. Water and premix quantities for 1 tonne of ready solution:
| Premix | Surface | Water / premix (kg) |
|---|---|---|
| ANKA GTM 0150General cleaning | Kitchen, bathroom and household surfaces | 850 / 150 |
| ANKA CTM 0020Glass cleaning | Glass, mirrors, screens and spectacles | 980 / 20 |
| ANKA TPM 0250Dashboard cleaning | Dashboard, console and door panels | 750 / 250 |
| ANKA DPM 0300Leather polish | Leather seats, bags, leather and plastic surfaces | 700 / 300 |
| ANKA APM 0200Shoe shine | Leather shoes | 800 / 200 |
ANKA GTM 0150 is a highly concentrated, water-based multi-purpose formula that easily removes grease and stains. ANKA CTM 0020 is water-based and alcohol-free; it cleans glass without streaks and is also suitable for LCD and phone screen wipes.
ANKA TPM 0250 cleans and revives car interior plastics. ANKA DPM 0300 is a silicone-based cleaning, polishing and care formula. ANKA APM 0200 cleans and shines leather shoes in one wipe.
Cleaning wipes production steps
Example: 1 tonne of general cleaning solution with ANKA GTM 0150.
- Solution preparation850 kg of clean, purified water goes into the tank; 150 kg of premix is added and mixed for 15 minutes.
- Fabric selectionThe nonwoven fabric is chosen to suit the surface and the dirt it will clean, then fed into the machine.
- Folding and wettingThe wipe is folded and cut, and the solution is dosed.
- PackingThe wipes are packed, or sealed one by one in sachets.
- Inspection and boxingWeight, sheet count and pack seal are checked; the products are packed into cartons.
The difference in cost calculation
Cleaning and car care solutions use a higher concentrate ratio than cosmetic wipes.
For cosmetic wipes, 20 kg of premix per tonne of solution is usually enough, whereas cleaning and car care solutions need 150–300 kg.
Calculate the pack cost of each product with its own ratio; do not price your whole range with a single ratio.
Common mistakes
Most complaints about cleaning wipes come down to these points.
- Using one solution for every surface. Glass, plastic, leather and kitchen surfaces each need a different formula.
- Calculating costs with cosmetic ratios. Cleaning and car care solutions need 150–300 kg of premix per tonne; calculate accordingly.
- Choosing a formula that streaks on glass wipes. Use a water-based, alcohol-free, streak-free solution for glass and screens.
- Moving to mass production without trials. On leather and plastic surfaces, test the solution with your own fabric on the target surface.
- Not checking the pack seal. Cleaning wipes dry out too if the pack does not close properly.
