What is premix?

Premix is the concentrated form of wet wipe solution. In this guide we explain what premix is, how it compares with making solution from raw materials or buying it ready-made, and how to prepare solution with premix.
What does premix do?
Wet wipe solution consists of water, preservatives, moisturisers and care ingredients. Premix combines everything except the water into a single concentrate.

3 ways to get your solution
Wet wipe manufacturers source their solution in one of three ways. You feel the difference most in stock, transport and quality control.
It takes many chemical raw materials, weighing, pH adjustment, formulation know-how and a laboratory. Every raw material means separate stock and a separate supplier.
No preparation, but most of the solution is water. For 1 tonne of solution you ship and store roughly 1 tonne of liquid.
Only 20 kg of concentrate is shipped per tonne of solution; you add the water at your own plant. For export, freight and storage loads drop significantly.
How to prepare solution with premix
Example: 1 tonne of wet wipe solution with ANKA EXT 0020.
- Fill the tank with water980 kg of clean, treated water.
- Add the premix20 kg of premix; the ratio varies by product.
- Add the fragranceFragrance at 0.3–0.5% of the finished solution.

Common mistakes
Most solution-related complaints come down to these points.
- Thinking “more is better”. Using more premix than the recommended ratio raises costs and changes the feel of the wipe without adding anything to the product.
- Overlooking water quality. Most of the solution is water; use clean, treated water.
- Cutting the mixing time short. Mix for the full recommended time so the solution is homogeneous.
- Mixing different premixes. Each premix is developed to be used on its own, at its own ratio.
- Not testing fragrance compatibility. Whenever you change premix or fragrance, run a new sample trial.

What is the difference between premix and solution?
Solution is the finished liquid loaded onto the fabric. Premix is the concentrate of that liquid; together with water it makes the solution.
How much premix is needed for 1 tonne of solution?
It depends on the product. For standard wet wipe premixes such as ANKA EXT 0020, 20 kg of premix is added to 980 kg of water.
How long does it take to prepare solution with premix?
Once the premix is added to the water, mix for 15 minutes and the solution is ready.
Is fragrance included in the premix?
No, fragrance is added separately. For single wipes, however, ANKA TIM 0020 comes with the fragrance already blended in, in 22 scents.
